Labour County Councillors Welcome High Peak’s Decision to Work With Victoria Arts Centre Project

Glossopdale’s Labour County Councillors have welcomed High Peak Borough Council’s decision to work with the Victoria Arts Centre project to realise a new and exciting vision for the Victoria Hall.

‘The planning application for the new library extension on the Adult Education building has now been granted,’ said Councillor Damien Greenhalgh, ‘and we are delighted that High Peak Borough Council have taken the decision to work alongside a credible organisation to develop an exceptional plan for the future of the Victoria Hall, as a new arts and performance centre for the town.’

‘This is a terrific project,’ added Cllr Dave Wilcox, ‘and we are keen to see it come to fruition together with the Glossopdale Trust proposal for the Town Hall complex.  We urge local people to back these plans, as they are so pivotal to both the future of the Victoria Hall and to putting Glossop on the map as a creative hub for arts, performance and music.  There’s lots of talent in Glossopdale and we think that the concept of the Victoria Arts Centre is exactly the place to showcase the community’s creativeness.’

Councillor Ellie Wilcox, who has a county-wide responsibility for libraries and culture, expressed her delight in the announcement too, adding, ‘We are hoping that when the first foundation stones for the new library extension are laid in the new year, local people will realise that both Councils are serious in their plans to transform this area into a community hub of literature, learning and creativity.’
