The Victoria Arts Centre Project Team are a group of highly skilled and enthusiastic local residents of Glossop and the surrounding area. We are:
Mike Bull – LL.B (Hons)
A retired solicitor, former local authority Chief Executive, former independent Chairman of a major Police Authority, and of various sports clubs and charities including a county-wide grant-making charity. He is an experienced promoter of professional arts events and lives in Howard Town Mill.
Virginia Tandy OBE
A former Director of Culture for Manchester City Council and a former Trustee of the Heritage Lottery Fund, and also a resident in Glossop.
Kirsten McKnight – BA (Hons), MA, MSc, IHBC
An experienced heritage professional with specialist knowledge in the conservation of listed buildings. Kirsten works professionally with Heritage Architecture Ltd in Manchester and lives in Glossop.
Claire Surman – BA (Hons), PG Dip Advanced Performance (Opera) – RCM
A professional opera singer and qualified teacher with over twenty years experience of performing in, organising, and promoting professional performing arts events. Claire is the Founder and Artistic Director of GLOSSOPERA and the Assistant Artistic Director of Glossop Music Festival. She has run music education workshops for professional companies (Glyndebourne, Sadlers Wells, etc.), as well as working with amateur choirs and youth groups. Claire lives in Glossop.
Malcolm Knight – RIBA, AABC-CA
A very experienced conservation accredited architect, former Director of, and now Consultant to, BTP Architects Ltd in Stockport and lives in Broadbottom.
Marion Barter – BA (Hons), MA, IHBC
A buildings historian with a background in public sector conservation and now a director of a national consultancy, The Architectural History Practice, and lives in Glossop.
Kate Raine – BA (Hons) Dunelm, MARM
A qualified archivist, with many years experience of working in a variety of archives including local record offices and specialist archives, now a professional genealogist and archive researcher. She lives in Glossop.
Simon Hurrell – MRTPI(Retd), FIED, DipTP, MSc
He qualified as a chartered town planner in 1974 and has worked in the public and private sectors. He was Head of Planning and Development at The royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead until retirement in 2015. He has wide experience of property development and management and was project director for the development of the Tacchi Morris Arts Centre in Somerset. He has also enjoyed choral and solo singing to a semi-professional standard since his university days as well as taking part in numerous opera and light opera productions in Cheshire and Somerset. Simon is a resident of Glossop.
David Swanston – BSc (Hons) FInstLM
A retired engineer turned general manager living in Glossop with a long involvement with GODS. He has production experience of both amateur and professional events and as a regular ballroom dancer, he is aware of the requirements of “big floor” events. David represents potential users of the VAC.
