New Library Gets Planning Permission

There was excellent news for Glossop on 3rd October 2016, when planning permission was granted for Derbyshire County Council to proceed with building an extension on to the Adult Education Centre, providing a new state of the art library for Glossop.

The new library will replace the existing library in the Victoria Hall. With the library now going to relocate, the way is opened up for the Victoria Arts Centre, which will need to use the whole of the Victoria Hall building.

The granting of planning permission is a statement of value about the role which a public library plays in Glossop. It also creates the opportunity to “save the Victoria Hall” and keep it available for community use, while providing another great facility for the town, so is good news all around.
